Minutes of the Meeting of Wednesday 6th. November, 2002
at 7.30 p.m.
1. Present were Marion Anderson, Eric Davidson, Peter Fettes,
Jimmy Kelly, Sue Lawson, Donald Nicolson and Dane Sherrard. An
apology had been received from Jimmy Roxburgh.
The minutes of the meeting of 7th. August were agreed.
2. No items from the minute arose which would not be dealt with on
the ordinary agenda.
3. Marion Anderson presented her financial report which was
another catalogue of people's generosity towards the Church. Our
meeting tonight marked the completion of the restoration project. In
all, a little over £91,000 has been spent on restoring the
Church over the last three years. Almost all of that money has been
raised within the village or donated by folk who live or work here.
It has been a wonderful achievement and the chairman thanked Marion
for all of the hard work she had put into raising money and looking
after the books during this time of restoration. He suggested that
now we should remove our collection cans and let the world know that
we are grateful for all that has been given and that giving can now
be devoted to one or other of the several important village projects.
4. Jimmy Kelly reported that the work of restoration was now complete.
There were other things which would be done in the months ahead, but
these fell under the heading of maintenance. In particular, work was
continuing on the tower (which had been damaged during a storm); work
would be done to create disabled access around the Church hall (with
a grant of some £900 expected from the Council); work was
planned to replace the windows in the Church hall as part of the
maintenance programme, and a new stained glass window was being
commissioned for the Church. Peter suggested that we investigate the
possibility of floodlighting the church, Jimmy hoped that this might
be done in time for the church to be floodlit at Christmas. Jimmy
expressed satisfaction with all the work of the restoration programme
and how it had been achieved and the chairman thanked him for the
huge contribution which he had made to the project.
5. Dane reported on the continuing high usage of the church
facilities and highlighted new organisations which have made
application to use the church. It was stressed that the
facilities of the church were made freely available to community
groups who were only asked in return to assist us with a once-a-year
fair at which we seek to raise the money to pay the heating and
lighting bill.
6. Under other business, the way forward was discussed. How do
we move from being a body engaged in restoring an old church to a
body of trustees ensuring that the building is cared for and
maintained. After discussion it was agreed that we would move to a
new pattern of two meetings a year, in March and in November. In
March we would examine a property inspection report and make plans
for what required to be maintained and of planned improvements. In
November we would review the work which had been done and ensure that
there was sufficient funds to meet the obligations of power
suppliers, insurance providers and so on. Insurance policies will be
uprated and checked at this meeting and we shall also seek to ensure
that the facilities of the building remain available to the wider
community. It will always be open to us to hold extra meetings as
required should members of the Trust wish that to be the case.
Dates of future meetings: Wednesday 5th. March, 2003 and Wednesday
5th. November, 2003. (It was agreed that about a week before the
March meeting there will the opportunity, for those who wish, to join
in a property inspection of the church.)
